PamPam Dyson, MA, LPC, RPT, owns a private practice in St. Louis, Missouri specializing in play therapy for children 3-12 years of age. She facilitates child-centered play therapy groups at the St. Louis Charter School, teaches a graduate course in play therapy at Lindenwood University and is the founder and director of the St. Louis Center for Play Therapy Training.

Pam is a graduate of the 2012 APT Leadership Academy and has served as a member of the APT Technology Task Force, exploring applications of emerging technologies in play therapy instruction, practice and supervision.

Her previous clinical experience includes working as a family therapist in residential treatment. Pam appears regularly on the KMOV TV show “Great Day St. Louis.”

 

Ready, Set, Play: The ABC’s and Beyond of Play Therapy

Friday,  April 4, 2014 ~ Boise 8:30am to 4:45pm, 6.5 hrs CEU

 

Description of workshop:

This training is designed for the new and the experienced play therapist in agency, private practice, and school settings who is interested in learning more about play therapy interventions and techniques. We will cover the basic rationale, philosophy, history, and theoretical concepts specific to both directive and non-directive play therapy.  Participants will be introduced to the toys and materials needed to set up a play therapy room or assemble a portable play therapy kit and we will explore cultural sensitivity.  The application of play therapy to various populations, limit setting and handling the unexpected will also be discussed. Video clips of play therapy sessions will be shown and attendees will have an opportunity to participate in experiential activities.

 

Day One Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain an understanding of both directive and non-directive play therapy
  2. Identify the materials needed to set up a play therapy room or to assemble a  portable play therapy kit
  3. Learn how to set limits and handle the unexpected in the play therapy room
  4. Be able to apply play-based interventions with children, adults, families and groups

 

All in the Family: Using Play Therapy with Families

Saturday, April 5, 2014 ~ Boise 8:30am to 4:45pm, 6.5 hrs CEU

 

Overview:

Working with families in a therapeutic setting provides important insights into family dynamics yet it also presents challenges. This training will focus on integrating play therapy into family therapy and how the use of play therapy techniques in family therapy encourages positive interaction among family members and enables us to include all members of the family, even very young children,  in the session. Activities and games for engagement, assessment and treatment in family play therapy will be presented and attendees will have an opportunity to experience these techniques. The unique challenges and opportunities of working with diverse families constellations will be discussed.

 

Objectives:

  1. Identify the skills and techniques used in play therapy with families.
  2. Understand the importance of assessment in treatment planning.
  3. Be able to recognize and deal with resistance in play therapy with families.
  4. Learn play therapy games and activities that can be used with families.

Cancellations

Registration cancellations must be submitted to IDAPT in writing and emailed to Idahoa4pt@gmail.com.
• A $75 administrative fee will be charge, and refunded processed only if the request is postmarked by March 15, 2014.
• Because registrations generate contractual and non-refundable guarantees between IDAPT and other parties, registration refunds will neither be made after March 15, 2014 nor to parties who register but do not attend.
• Registrations may be transferred to another person without penalty only if original registrant notifies IDAPT at Idahoa4pt@gmail.com.
• IDAPT reserves the right to cancel this conference in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such occurs, IDAPT will attempt to notify registrants at least 10 calendar days prior to the conference and refund all registration fees. In all instances, the liability of IDAPT is limited to refunding such fees.

 

Continuing Education

IDAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to play therapy (APT Provider #05-167).  13 CE hours for the two day conference are available for Social Workers, Counselors, and MFTs.
