COUN 7518 Sand Tray and Sand Play in Play Therapy
It is a professional favorite and usually closes for registration early due to its popularity. NNU’s Adventure Play Therapy Center is offering COUN7518 – 01/COUN57301 Introduction to Sandtray and Sandplay Play Therapy Approaches Friday (online synchronous), June 23 from 5:00 – 10:00 pm and Saturday (Face-to-Face), June 24 from 8:00am – 5:00pm. This course will be taught by Dr. Lori Fairgrieve, RPT-S and will provide practitioners with the most up-to-date knowledge of appropriate uses of sandtray therapy. This course provides practitioners with knowledge of the appropriate uses of mandalas, labyrinths, and sandtray therapies. Practitioners will learn how to use sand for enhancing client growth and awareness. A variety of theoretical approaches to the sand including both Jungian and Humanistic techniques will be demonstrated. Practitioners will have the opportunity to learn experientially how to use interventions in sandtray therapy. Practitioners will also engage in experiential activities in our sandtray labs designed to enhance their own professional growth and development. This course is essentially designed to assist students and practitioners in gaining a higher level of comfort while using sandtray and/or sandplay interventions and then increasing that comfort level with more confidence and a higher level of competence while working with complex issues children and their families present in therapy. Even if you don’t consider yourself a kid-person or play therapist, you can still benefit from using this versatile treatment approach across the lifespan.
As we have offered the past five summers, portable sandtray therapy starter kits will be available to purchase during the weekend so you can begin using what you’ve learned immediately. This year, the Adventure Play Therapy Center’s kits are bigger and better than ever. The portable sandtray starter kit includes: a portable tray with lid, specially washed play sand, sand tray tools, and over 350 symbols specifically chosen for their fit across the recommended miniature categories.
We hope you make plans to join us this summer!
