About the Presenter
John Paul Lilly MS, LCSW, RPT/S
John Paul “JP” Lilly is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor in private practice in Provo, Utah. He has authored numerous clinical articles published in reputable journals, written chapters on theory and practice in several books, and taught Play Therapy at Brigham Young University for 18 years in the graduate schools of Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Social Work.
He is the Founder of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), Inc., a 501-c3 organization that provides volunteer aid, comfort, and support to abused children. JP served as a member of the International Board of Directors for more than twenty years for BACA. He is a past member of the Board of Directors for The Association for Play Therapy (1997-2000), and is presently at the start of another term on the Board. He is recognized as an expert in the field of play therapy, specifically teaching and lecturing on Jungian Analytical Play Therapy nationally and internationally. He also provides supervision to other play therapists who desire to increase their proficiency within the field.
Program Description
Jungian Analytical Play Therapy: A Deeper Understanding of Children’s Play
This two-day presentation will focus on the development of the psyche of children from a Jungian Analytical perspective: Issues of ego development, consciousness, unconsciousness, the collective conscious, the collective unconscious, archetypes, the Ego-Self Axis, and complex formulation will be explained. Symptoms will then be examined within the context of the theory to illustrate how symptoms are empirical manifestations of complex material. A model for Play Therapy will be forwarded by the presenter to show how the process of assisting children to engage safely, symbolically, and archetypally with disturbing material can lead to transformation, both consciously and unconsciously. Play therapy will be highlighted as the only real form of therapy that can assist children in engaging difficult material safely, and the nature of that engagement will be analyzed. Two different videotaped cases will be shown with a systematic Jungian interpretation, detailed Jungian analysis, and using the Jungian Analytical Play Therapy session review form. The presentation will end with discussion from the participants to assist them in understanding how this process works.

- Gain an understanding of how the child’s thematic play is an extension of the unconscious struggle for the child and its’ symbolic manifestation in play therapy.
- Gain an understanding of the importance of temenos and how to create it in play therapy.
- Gain an understanding of ego inflation and its’ necessary role in complex confrontation and how to recognize it in play therapy.
- Gain an understanding of circummambulation, and what that process looks like in play therapy.
- Gain an understanding of what confrontation with complex material looks and feels like in play therapy.
- Gain a clear understanding of the symbolic nature of toys, and their use in play therapy.

Cancellation Policy
$75 of the registration fee is nonrefundable. Registrations are on a first come- first-served basis. Fees include 6 hours of training. Written cancellations received 4+ weeks prior to the training will receive the balance of the fees refunded. Cancellations received within 4 weeks of the training will forfeit a total of $125, with the remainder being refunded. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be given within the final week leading up to the training. In the unlikely event that the training is cancelled by the presenter, a full refund will be provided, or credit will be applied toward future or recorded training’s; whichever the registrant chooses.
